Do You Have A Dog That’s Always Pulling You? Well Here Are Some Tips To Stop Dog Pulling

Raising a dog is fun, but there are some problems that crop up every now and then, which need to be dealt with in the proper way. One such problem experienced by dog owners is -dog pulling. There are a lot of different ways to stop dog pulling and here we discuss some of the most effective ones.

The heel command is no doubt one of the most tried and tested ways to get your dog to listen to you. Never forget the collar and leash which are to be compulsorily worn by your pet dog. You need to make a conscious effort to walk properly if you want your dog to do the same.

Put your left leg forward first and try to walk in a straight line. You have to walk on the right side of the dog so that it appears as if you’re walking together. As soon as the dog starts walking ahead pulling you with him, you have to stop abruptly and not resort to pull him towards you.

Your dog will also learn to stop pulling. When you do this, there is no need to teach any particular command for your dog to pick up this technique.

If you ensure that your moves are sudden, your dog will be conscious of your every move. To stop dog pulling, when he starts pulling on the leash, make sudden twists and turns, totally contrary to one another, to flounder him. Now he will focus on where you are headed.

But remember never to twist the leash when it is already taut. As an alternative twist it before he is at the end of it and then coax him to come to you. Do not forget to reward him with good words and a loving pat that will make him happy that you approve of him. Take care never to scold him; patience is the best way out.

When training your dog how to stop dog pulling you should be the one to make rules and never be lenient on them. Take a decision that you will in no way allow him to drag you and counter this act each time he attempts to pull you forward. If you permit him alternatively to drag you sometimes and at other times restrain him, your dog will only end up becoming confused about the whole affair. So always be firm in your rules and stick to them.

If you have started the process of teaching your dog to stop dog pulling, see that you complete the training before you stop, because a break in between will only make him feel you are playing around. Let him get to understand that dog pulling is taboo. Be extravagant with love, praise and rewards when he listens to you and you will soon find that you have a very obedient dog on a leash.

If none of the above mentioned tactics are effective, then it is best to resort to a training tool to aid you. The market is flooded with a variety of such equipment, which includes head halters, gentle leaders, prong collars, easy walk harness and so on to help. You can get the advice of a professional trainer who will be able to tell you which device will suit your dog best.
