What? An Air Purification System without a HEPA Air Filter?

What is the Value of a HEPA Air Filter in an Air Purification System?

possibly the first question you may be asking is, ”Why do I need an air purification system anyway?” Good question! Most of us are at least vaguely aware of the concern around us regarding plant and tree allergens, smog, VOC’s (volatile organic compounds), cigarette smoke, environmental allergens, to name but a few.

More and more people are struggling with breathing and lung conditions and although we don’t talk about it as much, our livers are taking a huge hit. Some of us have been diagnosed with allergies and asthma, while other of us are heading down that road.

But the greatest pollution doesn’t come from our open air. It comes from within our homes from building materials, carpets, new furniture, cleansers, moulds, mildew, and dust mites. All those scented fresh air devices on the market have their price when it comes to our health.

correct air filtration can make a huge difference to the toxic load on our bodies, and resultant eventual break-down of health.

So what are the major players in an effective air purification system? The major proven air-cleaning technologies today are:

  1. True HEPA air filter – effective protection against dust & allergens. Great for asthmatics!
  2. Germicidal UV lamp – destroys micro-organisms such as germs, viruses, bacterium, fungi (moulds)
  3. Activated carbon Filter – for chemicals, gases, odours, cigarette smoke
  4. Ionizer – disperses negative ions to remove particles & bacteria from the air.
  5. Anti-bacterial Pre-filter for large particles, extending the life of other filters.

HEPA filters, made of tiny glass fibers that are made into a tightly woven paper, create a multitude of very minor sieves that capture extremely small particles. The highly absorbent pores of the HEPA filter trap contaminates and particles, keeping them from flowing back into circulation.

HEPA air filters remove 99.97% of particles, down to 0.3 microns in size. That’s almost 300 times smaller than the width of a human hair. It comfortably catches tobacco, pollen, dust and most other types of debris floating around. HEPA air filters are preferred by people who suffer from severe allergies, since they are highly effective.

A HEPA air filter, in combination with a germicidal UV lamp, reduces bacteria by 80%. And when you include an Activated Carbon Filter to this mix, you are in effect ridding your environment of air-borne particles, allergens, most germs, viruses, bacteria, moulds, chemicals, gases, and odours, including cigarette smoke. When your friends are nursing colds and flus, you will have a better chance of escaping them, because your immune system has not been compromised in your home air environment.
